In anticipation of the International Year of Pastoralism 2025 and in alignment with the International Year for the Camels 2024, we gathered to honor and uplift the pastoralist way of life. As custodians of ancient traditions and stewards of unique ecosystems, pastoralist communities played a pivotal role in food security, climate resilience, and cultural preservation.
The conference brought together thought leaders, policymakers, pastoralist communities, and international partners to discuss strategies for empowering pastoralist economies, enhancing regional collaboration, and preparing for a sustainable future.
Develop strategies to end drought emergencies, enhance food security, and promote climate resilience through livelihood diversification.
Review of county government structures and governance challenges to identify gaps and propose actionable solutions to improve leadership and service delivery in pastoral counties.
Address policy and financing bottlenecks hindering
pastoral development and establish a framework for using data and evidence to inform pastoralism policies.
Empowering marginalized voices in pastoralist societies through affirmative action and inclusive development.
Attendees engaged with key regional actors shaping the future of pastoralism and gained insights from various regional pastoralist initiatives.
Participants became part of a preparatory forum leading up to the global celebration of pastoralism in 2025.
Attendees explored the significant role of camels in sustainable development—from food security to cultural identity—as they celebrated their contributions during the International Year for the Camels 2024.
Attendees strengthened ties between neighboring countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, as they collectively worked towards enhancing trade, security, and economic prosperity in cross-border pastoralist regions.
We were proud to work alongside these esteemed organizations as we celebrated and strengthened pastoralism for generations to come.
Each speaker brought a unique perspective to the conversation, fostering meaningful dialogue and inspiring action for the future of pastoralism. Attendees had the opportunity to get to know the voices leading the way toward a sustainable, prosperous tomorrow.
